Christina Hendricks is called a healthy role model!

July 26, 2010

Wow, I’m sooooo excited!  I was checking out The Huffington Post today and ran across this article about Christina Hendricks. The headline read, “Retouched Images Might be Labeled in UK, Christina Hendricks Hailed as Healthy Role Model”.

I had planned on doing a Christina post soon, but since this is in the headlines, I’ll go ahead and discuss this article.  There are two things I was really happy with in the article.  One is this quote about photoshopped images being used:

Featherstone is organizing a series of discussions to be held this fall about Photoshopping, which she says contributes to “the dreadful pressure that young people, girls and women come under to conform to completely unachievable body stereotypes.” She wants all airbrushed photographs to be labeled as such.

I would absolutely love to see this catch on.  I don’t think people realize how much an image is photoshopped by the time it reaches the public eye.  Hopefully articles like this will become more prevalent and people will become more aware.  Actually, it would be even better if when women are photographed, they would put stipulations in their contract that there is to be no extreme photoshop work done on their photographs other than to remove some blemishes, etc.

Second, I was glad to see Chrstina Hendricks labeled as a “healthy role model”.  She’s beautiful and curvy, and seems to have a positive self-image.  Heck, she should considering that she was voted as the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire readers earlier this year.

I think this proves my point that I’ve always made that if it were up to men, we would pick a curvy woman any day over a stick model.  Designers have even recently began starting making clothes in Christina’s size to fit her better and accentuate her curvaceous figure.

This article was such an encouraging read.  Let’s hope the labeling of photoshopped images catches on in the UK and maybe the US will follow suit and that voluptuous women will continue to be portrayed in a positive light in the media.

I adore this lady. And, it would be great to label Photoshopped photos as such.

It’s great that designers are carrying stuff in Miss Hendricks’ size…but will that ever trickle down to store shelves, for women like myself who are similarly-sized? Let’s hope it does. (Read: everything is either designed for tiny-skinny people, or even bigger women than me. D: What happened to hourglass sizes? At the moment, I tailor almost all of my clothes, as none of them fit off the rack. Fffff. )
